Bio

Dr. Auty’s work is focused on modeling the effects of forest management and climate on tree growth and wood properties, and linking these with growth and yield models. An understanding of the highly variable nature of wood at different spatial scales can help inform strategic planning decisions by the forest products industry, and underpins new product development. This approach can also help predict changes in the wood supply under future climatic and forest management scenarios. This is particularly relevant in the US Southwest, where landscape-scale forest restoration initiatives have begun to protect vital watersheds and mitigate catastrophic wildfire hazard.
